My daily subject matter is being interrupted so that this proud mama can toot her horn.
Toot, toot! :)
This summer, my almost 13 yr. old son was undecided about trying out for his
Junior High Football Team.
His father and I agreed not to “push him” one way or the other, although,
I didn't understand his reason for NOT wanting to play.
Throughout the summer, I would occasionally ask him if he was interested in playing.
And each time he responded, “I don’t know!”
Me: "why don't you want to play?
Him: “I don’t know”.
Me: "Don't you want to be apart of the team & show your school spirit?"
Him: “I don’t want to get up so early every morning!”
So, I left it alone.
Then, out of the blue, just a couple of days before school started, he announced…
“I’m going out for football!”
For the last 3 weeks, he has been in bed by 9 pm.
(homework done, gym bag packed & ready for the next day).
He wakes up at 6 AM (Monday- Friday), with NO complaining!
He goes to football practice for 2- 2.5 hrs, and then goes to school until 4 pm.
Not once has he complained about being tired or sore.
In addition to his football schedule, he plays on a Select Baseball team
that holds 2 week day practices & plays a doubleheader every Saturday.
This past Friday, we found out he made the 7th grade “A team”!!!
I was on “Cloud 9” when he called to tell me the good news.
And like any proud mama, I got all chocked up. But only after a couple of Whoo hoo’s!
My little boy is growing up! :)
This is a pic of him taken the 1st week of school...
with no plans of cutting his hair.
Two weeks into football practice.... he's getting into the spirit of things!
Not only did he cut his hair, he bleached it blonde.
And this one was taken last night at the football game!
(he's the one in the white shirt!)
They won the game, 26- 6!
xoxo, one proud mama. :)
I remember that change for my son too. Football, baseball, not to mention band with private trumpet lessons, guitar lessons, AP science and German classes. It was quite a handful to keep everything straight and get him to the right place for everything. You're right, it does sure make a mamma proud!
He didn't bleach his hair, but he did get a mohawk... that didn't last though.

Gosh, don't they grow up fast! He's a cutie, but (being the old fogey I am) I think his hair was adorable before the new do! Take lots of photos, they grow up way too fast...

Your ds is a handsome dude. I love the long hair, but also that you allow him the freedom to "just be" and go blond. What position is he playing?
My ds played football in 7th and 8th too. Most of the moms were worried about their babies getting hurt. I on the other hand was the one yelling,"hit 'em harder". He played through bruised ribs most of 8th grade and broke his foot in the very last game(maybe you don't want to know that).
Just wait until you see the changes in him physically through the weight training. Muscles will start popping up like crazy, especially since his is on the leaner side.

Thanks for letting me know you posted these. You were right, that is a BIG change with the hair color! I like his hair brown better, but it's only hair, right?! I hope he has a good season of football and they win a lot! Suzie

oh my! What a huge difference in your brown headed boy to your "other" looking boy! Funny! I have girls so this would throw me in a tizzy! Although I'm sure with 2 girls and eventual mood swings...I'm SURE to be in a tizzy! Ha! Thanks for sharing this fun post!!
