This past Saturday the family & I drove to Roanoke
for the "Celebrate Roanoke Downtown Festival".
It was the perfect time to check out
Ann-Denise's new art studio,
P'arty Place.

It's the cutest little magazine!
I've looked at it a few hundred times since I
purchased it earlier this week. :)
And ideas are already coming to me.
Anyhoo, I sorta fell off the face of the earth for a
short while - - Distancing myself from
my blog, the art world, & those that I considered friends.
And then one of those friends sent me an e-mail.
Something about a picture of us. ??
But I didn't pay it much attention
until I got a text this week saying the pic
was quit large... so I figured it was worth checking out.
So, off to the bookstore I went.
Eek!
There is was.

Funny how things turn out.
When I was blogging on a regular basis & attending art events,
being publish was something I wanted.
Then, I do a little vanishing act
and Voila! this appears.
The best things about this picture being published is...
Mingle, the magazine, has me mingling with my ol' friends again.
And better yet, it's given me a creative idea to host
a unique gathering of my own.

On Saturday, my daughter & I set up a little booth
at the Paper Cowgirl Vendor Fair.
To my surprise, my son & the hubby stopped by
for a quick visit. :)
My son: "Mom, this lady is selling these little things
over there. They look like little dolls".
Me: "Yep, people use them in their art work".
Son: "They are $5 each!"
Me: "I know, they're called frozen charlottes".
Son: "People buy those?"
Me: "Yea, They're pretty popular".
Son: "BUT THERE ALL BROKEN!
They dont even have arms & legs!"

And that comment right there is why
I never ask him or his father to go to
the flea, to the antique mall, or to a
vendor show with me. :)
I haven't been a very good blogger, have I?.

Between drill team, baseball, & the
birth of my twin God-sons
My life hasn't been my own lately.
But, I'm trying to get back into the groove!
I've been doing a little crafting,
hit the big flea... and I'm just about ready
to hang out with some
fun-spirited & crafty COWGIRLS. :)
I'll be vending at Paper Cowgirl
and attending the Cowgirl Prom.
I'm super excited & can't wait to see everyone.

It seems as if this last month has been one big test!
You know... to see if I could handle stress,
make the right choices, multi-task,
and just plain "get through it".
So, you probably know that my hubby
was offered a job in Dubai. And for a minute,
we were all ready to go. The twins were considering
leaving their friends & their current life for 1 year...
and we would return their Junior year of High School.
Then soon after that, THEY changed their mind!!!
My daughter said that trying out for Drill Team Officer
was more important to her than traveling. :)
So on to Plan B: The hubby would move to Dubai
without us... and I would live in our house with the kids.
Within days, my hubby was off to Dubai. He had meeting
after meeting, toured the city & check out the housing.
And secretly, I was a nervous wreck. (But didnt have the heart
to tell him). I knew the job was his if he wanted it.
He just had to say 'yes'.
In the mean time, we continued on with the try-out process
for drill team officer. What a lengthy process!!
Several days went by & I was still unsure of what
my future was going to be. Until, I got the call... and
the hubby said he had DECLINED the job!!! :)
He said he couldn't stand the thought of being away
from us. And that he didn't want to miss anything.
(Out of the blue, my hubby came home w/ this truck...

So, try-outs were last night. And from the pics,
you can probably see that SHE MADE IT!!! :)
woo-hoo!!
So, starting in August, we'll be at the big H.S. stadium
every Friday night watching the varsity football game
& waiting for the half time show.
That's when she'll perform. :)
She said last night, "I dont know what I'm most excited for...
going to Officer camp this summer, getting an Officer locker,
the fact that my shirts will say 'squad leader' or
because my name will be announced at
each varsity football game!"
(she'll get to tip her hat to the crowd as she is announced)
As for me, I'll be happy that my lil' family will all
be together! I guess Texas is where God wants us. :)
I've been spending a lot of time
with this little one.
We do fun things together like
sing silly songs, walk the dog,
play with water
AND look for bugs.
She reminds me of what it's like to have
little ones in the house.
She reminds me of what it's like to
constantly be on my toes. :)
She reminds me of just how
patient I have grown to be.
... and most importantly, she reminds me
that some things just aren't important.
She makes me want to be a better a person. :)
For her... I am grateful.
Things are crazy around the Lewis house.
They always are around this time of year.
Only thing difference this year
is that I'm trying to figure out if we
should move to Dubai.
The hubby was offered a full-time job
in Dubai & the entire family can go.
Honestly, I'm not even sure how
to go about considering this... it's such a big decision.
So, in the mean time,
I'm busy with my normal "mom" duties...
planning the 'end of the year' banquet
for my daughters drill team,
hosting a baby shower,
going to my son's baseball games,
volunteering at the baseball concessions stands
(H.S. & at the Tx Ranger games)
Busy, busy.
I haven't crafted much lately.
well, minus these paper dolls.
My daughter designed the costumes
and picked out all the materials.
And I helped with the construction.
I think they came out well.
Just wish I would of taken them out of the
plastic sleeve before photographing them. :)
What can I say?
My time spent with old friends was just what I needed.
The last 5 months, I've been spending time with the kids...
doing mom stuff & crafting very little.
I thought my bloggin' days were over & that "art events"
were a thing of the past for me.
But, I think Cassi has changed that. :)
I had a wonderful time at her event... visiting with old friend & meeting new.

Our first night was spent at the Marie Market Soiree.
Cassi asked me to assist with one of the make & takes...
So, I spent the evening chatting with all the guest
as they created lovely hand mirrors.
The next day, I enjoyed tea & scrumption desserts at a
cute little tea shop... then later that evening,
we dolled up for the Grand Ball.

Hi!
So, it's finally time to share the items I
made & received from the Gypsy Brocante Rosette Swap.
For Missy, I made the following:
a apron using a vintage table runner
Love the stitching! Wish it was my work, but it's not.
I read on Missy's blog that she is a fan of stitching...
so, I knew this vintage table runner would be perfect for her.
I used a vintage doily to create the pocket
and stuffed it with lil' things I thought Missy would like,
pink lace, buttons, millinery, & vintage pin up post card.
Missy is a runner! (something I need to become) :)
so, I figured she probably needed a cute little headband
to wear on the days she goes for a run...
So, I whipped this is up.
It's nothing fancy... just a thin piece of fabric
long enough to tie behind her neck.
I love the way the rosette came together.
It's kind of a messy, tattered look... but I think its adorable.
And finally, a handmade rosette "pin" that she can attach
to a headband or pin to a sweater.
Hers was similar to this one... but pink in color.
I forgot to photograph it before
sealing up the package! oops! :)

And I received some very nice gifts from Jennifer.
Unfortunately, a spunky little 15 year old
who looooves to "use my things" has MISPLACED
my camera. eeek!!!!
So, I have no photos. Double Eeek!

Maybe Jennifer will post some pics & I can "borrow" them. :)
But I received a very nice typed letter & lots of goodies.
My package included: a hanging metal container with a lovely
black & white silhouette of children playing. She attached a
beautiful pink rose to the upper left hand corner & added a
touch of ribbon & a rhinestone brooch just under the silhouette.
It's perfect for my craft room!
She also included a wooden cigar box that was stuffed with lots
of treasures: fairy silhouette notecards, 2 hankies, lace,
a stran of aqua beads, seashells, a vintage birthday postcard,
and 3 mermaid cameos. (the box was tied with a piece of
fabric & a pretty yellow rosette that she altered.
Thanks Jennifer!!!! I adore it all. :)
This is what I have been working on...
things with pretty little blooms.
I wish I could show you the pic in it's entirety,
but they are for a swap.
The hostess has planned a blog party for the 1st of Sept.
So, I should probably wait until then, huh? :)
Although, I am dying to show you!
I am extremely happy with the way everything
turned out. I think in some cases, this might be
my best work yet. :)
Of course, its easy to get inspired when you have
a day to yourself and gorgeous roses
like this to admire.
My hubby gave them to me for our
18th wedding anniversary, which was yesterday.
When ordering, he said he told the florist...
"I want something that looks antique & artsy".
Antique & artsy... two pretty good words to describe
what I like. I guess he HAS been paying attention! LOL
