Religious artifacts II

As promised, here is part II of
my "religious artifacts".


This is my first crucifix. 

I believe it was given to me at my Baptism
  ...so, you know it's definitely vintage.  LOL

 
A religious statue. 

She's chipped in various places,
 but all I see is Beauty.  I purchased
her at an estate sale for $4.00
 I was surprised that after a 3 day
sale,  she was still available.  But I guess, she
was meant to join my family.  :)


I love this wooden cross!
This cross is pretty much what started my collection.

It's the first religious piece I purchased.

I stumbled across it at an estate sale years ago.
 I think I paid around $15.00 for it.
But upon laying eyes on it,

I knew I had to have it!


Vintage Children's Books.
The covers are a little worn, but the pages
are in perfect condition.
I purchased both of these books at a
  yard sale/fundraiser for a local school.
Each book was 25 cents.


An old Bible that belonged to Hettie Lewis, born 1874.

Originally, I had plans of selling this in my shop.
But when I noticed it belonged to a "Lewis"
(same as my married name)
I knew I wanted to keep it.
Esp. since it dates back so far.

 
Your not going to believe this, but I purchased
this for $1.00 at an estate sale in Dallas.
Upon finding it, I was shocked that
none of the family members had claimed it.
And I found it a little odd that I was thinking
about purchasing it.  But once I saw the name:
"Lewis"
I was hooked.




And this is a Divinity Crucifix-
Sick Call Set.

I haven't read the directions in a while, but
I believe one would set up the crucifix,
light the candles and say a special prayer
over someone who is ill.
I purchased this set an antique store in
Irving for $20.00

Well, that about does it for my

Religious artifacts

Today I am participating in Cindy's Show & Tell Sunday.
Our topic is to share one of our favorite
"vintage" collections.

I had decided to share my "religious artifact" collection
with you.   However, I did the most bonehead
thing & left my camera at my parents house last night.  :(

So, I am pulling pictures from my photo
archives so that I can participate.

I apologize, but my "vintage" items will have
to be added to this post tonight.


The artwork is actually a page torn from a
book.  I had it framed specifically for this
spot.  It's the first thing I see as I walk out
of my bedroom every morning. 

And the wooden cross is hand sculpted.
I purchased it from a local artist on my
trip to Belize.


Although it's not vintage (yet), this is my favorite rosary.
It was given to me by my 3 Godchildren as
a Christmas present.

I also had the word "faith" tattooed onto my
right wrist.   For me, it's a daily reminder
to "Always have Faith".


In the living room, I have hung 2 of my favorite crosses.
The top one is made from fish bone and was
purchased from a local artist in Cancun.
As you can see, it is very thin & delicate.
I was truly lucky to get it home in one piece.

The 2nd cross was found at an old antique mall
that was going out of business.


I love these two little figurines.  They were both purchased
at a local antique mall.  I'm not sure what they are called,
but I was told they were religious related.

I thank you for visiting.  And truly apologize for not
having more vintage items to share with you at the moment.

But I promise to get it all added a soon as possible.

Vintage Aprons

Welcome to Show & Tell Sunday!

Today's post is all about vintage aprons!

My collection is rather small.  I just started collecting
them approximately 4-5 months ago after discovering
blogland.



Most of my aprons have two things in common:
1.) the color red and
2.) rick rack

I started searching for Red aprons after receiving
my late Grandmother apron.  My aunt was gracious
enough to gift it to me several years after my Grandmother's passing.

This red & white checkered print was hers. 
I love the sweet lace just above the pockets.



Thinking back, I recall both of my grandmother's
wearing aprons.  I think they may have even slept in them.  LOL
A majority of my memories are of both my grandmother's
(in aprons) cooking for the family.



 
I purchased this fun oriental themed apron at
a yard sale for 50 cents



I've never really seen anything like it!  :) 

And my odd ball apron is this green polka dots


I guess between all of the aprons,  I am set for
the Christmas Season!

Show & Tell Sunday

Heidi of Birds of a Feather is hosting our Show & Tell Sunday!  She did an awesome job of picking a topic!  Fabulous Flea Market finds!   You know the kind that just make you heart skip a beat.

Over the years I have found a ton of items that have definitely made me jump with joy.  But, let's be honest, finding them is only half the fun!  Purchasing great treasures AT THE RIGHT PRICE, is what it's all about for me! 

Yes, I am one of those hagglers.   But in a nice way!   I'm not afraid to ask a dealer for their "best price".  After all, I got the idea after reading an article in a magazine.   My husband HATES it when I ask for a better deal.  And some of my girlfriends are somewhat jealous, because they haven't worked up the nerve to do it (yet).  But if you have the chance to get a great item at a great price...  why not?

My thinking on the situation...   Simply ask!  The dealer may surprise you & say YES!  The worst thing they can say is "NO!"   And at that point, it's up to me to make the decision.  I either pay what they are asking...  or I better be ready to walk away empty handed.  It's as easy as that!

Here are some of my Fabulous Flea Market finds...

I purchased this 5 piece metal patio set at a flea market in Ft. Worth for $30.   The dealer was originally asking $35... which is a steal!  But I asked her for her best price & she said $30.  I quickly paid her, and told her I would be back at the end of the day to pick it up.   

When I arrived back to get it, two other dealers were kicking themselves in the pants for not spotting the table first.  Sorry Charlie!  The early bird gets the worm!  :)

I purchased this lovely gold & white shelf in Canton.   The sticker price said $40.  The dealer was advertising 1/2 off everything!  I fell in love with it right away...  but wasn't willing to pay $20.  I guess the dealer was eager to sell because he quickly told me that he would sell if for $15.  I looked at the shelf some more & said I didn't know.  So, he blurts out...  "I'll give it to you for $10!"  I said ok.  But when I reached into my pocket...  I had only had $8.00 handy.   So, I offered him $8 cash.   I guess there is something about seeing the money...  because he agreed.  And I walked away a happy customer.   

I also purchased this cabinet in Canton.   It use to be an old clock.  The dial & hands had been removed.  But the pendulum was inside the case when I purchased it.

My girlfriend Angela spotted this precious baby for me!  It way laying underneath a table and I had walked right past it never even seeing it.

Before traveling to Canton, I had mentioned to Angela that I was interested in a case like this.  I was going to have one made & estimated it would cost me approx. $100 based off other cases I had seen in our local antique mall.

The marked price on this piece was $25.  I asked the dealer if he would take $20 & he quickly said yes.  Actually, he didn't even hesitate...  which makes me wish I had started lower...  like maybe $15.   But nevertheless, I am happy with my find & I probably saved myself $60- $80.  Plus, I love the fact that is has a history!  I plan on using it in my booth as a locking show case.   I have vintage hardware that I am going to add & will add a couple of shelves as well.

Trash 2 Treasure

Today I am participating in Analise & Cerri's "Trash 2 Treasure" Show & Tell.

This is my 2nd Sunday to play along & I am excited about showing you a couple of my creations.

 

This first piece is a simple frame that I made out of two drink coasters from a local restaurant.

Using  scrapbook paper, I covered both front & back of each coaster,  trimmed it to fit and secured with glue.  Punched wholes into the sides, tied it together with ribbon & decorated. 

This cute cheese ball tray was inspired by Tina of Cherry Hill Cottage. 

The hardest part was figuring out what type of glue to use!

All the items used are odd pieces found in my kitchen. 

This small basket was made by using scrapbook paper, a card board ribbon spool & glue.   I made a scalloped bottom & secured it with crafting glue.  Decorated the outside of the spool & secured the handle.

It's perfect as a small party favor or a little Valentine treat. 

The liner inside the basket is a coffee filter that I decorated by simply stamping. 

For you, this sweet basket is holding a vintage pocket clock, some bling & a cute little baby doll.   But chocolates would also be a nice touch.

Show n' Tell Sunday

Here are some pics of my scrapbook/craft/storage room.

I had hopes of posting these pictures HOURS ago.  But it's now a quarter to ten (PM) and I am just now posting.

I apologize if anyone checked my blog before now.

The first pic is obviously my VERY clean desk.   It's rarely in this shape. I have a couple of family pics and other little objects that I like on top.  And my black "inspiration" bulletin board.

Second pic:  dress form & sewing items.   

My room is probably much different from everyone else...   

In the fact that, these pretties are not items that I will keep.  All of them were purchased with the intent to re-sell in my booth at the Antique Mall.

However, I have to admit, I do like they way they all look together.  And I am starting to think about keeping some of the items.

Toys, dolls, baby items, vintage suitcase, vintage board games.

The suitcases are filled with game pieces, decks of old playing cards, photos, and scrapbook paper.

Again, all these items will eventually find their way into my booth.

My Scrapbook items.   I used  Yellow Pepsi creates to hold my stamp pads, buttons, a couple of items that I made, and little trinkets.

The green tiered basket houses stamps & punches.

The red stand is my first piece of altered art.   I purchased the cake stand at a yard sale for less than a dollar.  (small chip on one side).   I glued red paper around the rim, and added buttons & ribbon.

I use to scrapbook often, but have gotten away from it for now.  I am hoping to start scrapbooking a little more now that school is out & our schedules should die down just a little.

This is the closet.   I added the trinkets purchased from LaurieAnna's Vintage Home.   

The dresser was my brothers as a young boy.  My son used it for many years & now I use it to store items like paints, glue guns, crafting glue, gift bags & tissue paper.

Other side of the closet.  The plastic shelves were purchased at a yard sale for 10 cents each.  They hold vintage cameras, idea book, scissors, sponge brushes, scrapbook glue, tape & scrapbook paint.

Several of my scrapbooks are on the left  &  scrapbook tools in the blue drawer.

Little red desk with vintage dog items on top shelf.   And my new vintage type writer that I got for FREE on Friday. 

I purchased the red desk originally with the idea of re-selling it.  But when I brought it home, my husband actually claimed to like it & said that I should keep it.   So, I did!

You don't have to tell me twice!     I think my NEW type writer looks good there.  :)

Well, this is my very clean crafting/storage room.   I am sure that it will NOT stay this way for LONG!  ha-ha

After looking at these photos myself, I think I need some paint on the walls.   "Oh Honey!  Can we go to Home Depot?"
